Rituals of the Balaram Jayanti Vrat
- On the eve of Balaram Jayanti, worshippers rise early in the morning, take a bath, and begin preparations for the Puja.
- Before the Puja begins, the temple is decked with flowers and leaves.
- Lord Krishna and Lord Balaram’s idols are set and dressed in new garments.
- The festival is held in all temples where Lord Balarama and Lord Krishna are revered.
- On this day, devotees who follow a fast refrain from eating until noon.
- Saints and devotees give the idols of Lord Balarama and Lord Krishna a holy bath with panchamrit.
- Devotees make special meals and ‘bhog,’ which are dedicated to the deity and subsequently distributed in the form of sacred food to all family, friends, and neighbours.

Balaram Jayanti Significance
According to Hinduism and the Puranas, Lord Balarama is the ninth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Lord Balarama was also Lord Krishna’s elder brother. He was extremely powerful, and he used his abilities to destroy Asura Dhenuka, the enormous demon. He is also thought to be the incarnation of the huge snake God Aadi Sesha, the serpent on which Lord Vishnu used to sleep, according to some Hindu scriptures.
